News from Luke

Hey guys! Wow I always wondered why people who leave the country usually don’t write very much. I thought that when I had left I would at least write once a week if not more and keeping close contact………………. I was wrong. It’s a lot harder to sit down and write an update then I thought. Ok I think this update is going to be short, but we will see what happens. ☺All right so week two was amazing! We had lectures on Grace and Discipleship. I know discipleship is a pretty broad subject, but I think this was the point. LOL Phil Yeoman was an awesome teacher for the second week. I found out that my whole life; I have not known what Grace is. I always thought it was like mercy. But I found out that grace is instead God’s ability in you to do through you what you can’t do. We have to ask for this grace and be humble to let it work through us. IT’S AMAZING! It’s like a new superpower. LOL Phil talked about a lot of stuff I took 12 pages of typed, single spaced notes and I probably still missed a lot. One of the subjects for week 2 was unity and it was a good thing. Week 3, from what I have heard, is usually the week where the masks come off and the boxing gloves go on. And they were right. What do you think the conflict was over? (hint: an apartment full of guys.) Yep that’s right, food. LOL However, God is good and with his grace most of the conflicts were solved without anyone dying. ☺ The third week was on the Father’s Heart Of God. Our speaker was Egor Lysenko. He runs a Christian drug rehab center that actually 2 of the guys in my apartment went through. From what I have heard it is pretty intense and that guys usually come out of it on fire for God. I was a little worried that it was going to be one of those touchy feely god is our daddy talks but it wasn’t. It was very down to earth and powerful. It was a hard week for a lot of the students. I realized how lucky I am to grow up in the family that I did and to have the parents I do. What I have said about the lectures really doesn’t do them justice. They are some of the most in-depth, mind-blowing lectures I have heard. (For those of you who have gone to ROCK SOLID, it is like that.) A lot of the times you leave and your mind feels like a balloon ready to blow up. ☺ The weather here was warm for a little bit but then it got cold again and rained a lot. However, the trees are starting to fill up with leaves and there are a lot of I think cherry trees that smell wonderful and add some much needed color. When I first got here everything looked very grey and dead. It’s amazing what a little color from the trees and grass does to a city. I know its pretty lame to talk about weather but really; the color has amazing affects on a grey city. Thanks for all our prayers!!!!Thanks all who wrote to me!!!! I will try my best to reply. Please keep writing even if I don’t respond. Thanks!Blessings to you all,LukePS: I guess there might have been some misunderstanding in my last update when I said the President Bush followed me to Ukraine. Sorry! I was just joking. He came a day or 2 after I got there. That’s why I said jokingly that he followed me to Ukraine. ☺PPS: Sorry for al the typos and bad grammar. Hopefully you aren’t utterly helplessly confused by the time you are done reading this update. ;-)

Spring break travels in Cinque Terra. It was by the ocean and absolutely beautiful! I wish that you all could have been there with me... The last picture is my roommate and I with all of the luggage that we had between three of us. Thanks for the backpack Mark. Spring break was great.
